Working principle
This product manufactured by compressing pulverized bituminous or lignite coal with a binder into briquettes or pillow-shaped blocks, followed by carbonization and steam activation. This process develops a bimodal pore structure—micropores (<2 nm) for small molecule adsorption and mesopores (2–50 nm) for larger organic compounds. The briquette shape provides high bulk density and mechanical strength, ensuring uniform flow distribution in fixed-bed columns or gravity filters. Contaminants including VOCs, chlorine, organic compounds, and heavy metals are captured through physical van der Waals forces, while surface functional groups enable limited chemisorption for polar impurities.
