Working principle
Coconut shell activated carbon removes organic contaminants, chlorine, and pesticides via physical adsorption in its micropores and chemisorption on its oxygen-containing functional groups. Its high hardness resists attrition during backwashing, while low ash prevents unwanted metal leaching, ensuring safe, clean drinking water. In gas streams, the carbon's extensive microporous structure traps volatile organic compounds (VOCs), odors, and harmful gases through van der Waals forces. Its uniform pore size and high iodine value provide rapid adsorption kinetics, making it ideal for air filters, solvent recovery, and respirator cartridges.
